Originally the band members were slathered in face paint, ala KISS, though this trend was short-lived. Each of the Kongs had a distinctive style: Kaptain Kool ([[Michael Lembeck]]) donned a hat and had outfits covered with prisms; Turkey ([[Mickey McMeel]]) had suns on his attire; Nashville ([[Louise DuArt]]) was clad in butterflies and Superchick ([[Debra Clinger]]) in hearts... and then there was Flatbush ([[Bert Sommer]]), who wore a giant pimp hat, complete with feather. Flatbush was dropped from the show after the first season.

'Kaptain Kool and the Kongs' are an original "band" of actors that were assembled for the The Krofft Supershow. The band hosted, provided comic relief between shows, and they also performed musical numbers.

The Band

Originally the band members were slathered in face paint, ala KISS, though this trend was short-lived. Each of the Kongs had a distinctive style: Kaptain Kool (Michael Lembeck) donned a hat and had outfits covered with prisms; Turkey (Mickey McMeel) had suns on his attire; Nashville (Louise DuArt) was clad in butterflies and Superchick (Debra Clinger) in hearts... and then there was Flatbush (Bert Sommer), who wore a giant pimp hat, complete with feather. Flatbush was dropped from the show after the first season.

Music

Music for the show was credited to The Osmonds. For the second season of the show, however, many new, non-Osmonds songs were performed that tied in with the self-titled album released by Epic Records. The band also performed on other shows (several of which were Krofft productions), most notably The Brady Bunch Hour, The Krofft Comedy Hour and American Bandstand.

Theme Song

  • As with all of the segments of The Krofft Supershow, Kaptain Kool and the Kongs had their own theme song.

People everywhere, come gather around,
Listen to a band with a brand new sound.
Get on your feet and dance to the beat!
If you're wondering who we are,
We're Kaptain Kool and the Kongs,
When we're singing, what can go wrong?
Kaptain Kool and the Kongs,
Gettin' it on
(Gettin' it on)
Singin' a song
(Singin' a song!)

Get yourself a girl, get yourself a guy,
You'll get together, don't you be so shy.
Gonna tear up the town a hundred miles around!
If you're wonderin' who we are,
We're Kaptain Kool and the Kongs!
When we're singing, what can go wrong?
Kaptain Kool and the Kongs,
Gettin' it on
Kaptain Kool and the Kongs,
When we're singing, what can go wrong?
Kaptain Kool and the Kongs!
When we're singing, what can go wrong?
Kaptain Kool and the Kongs,
Gettin' it on
Kaptain Kool and the Kongs,
When we're singing, what can go wrong?
Kaptain Kool and the Kongs...
